About Me

Hi, my name is Madde! Welcome to The Collegiate Vegan. So, you wanna know my story? Well, one summer a friend of mine showed me a Jenna Marbles video talking about her diet and how she ate vegan six days a week, so with a lot of hesitation we decided to try it. We resigned to the fact that we’d really have to be ‘health freaks’ if we wanted to be healthy and in shape. I had no idea how much that moment would change my life.

I didn’t really think the switch would be too difficult, I had been vegetarian for a total of five years before. But then I read The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone, and it changed everything. I knew eating like this would be better and healthier for me, but I never really took the time to think about WHY. From that moment on I became obsessed with nutrition. Reading about what’s really in food, what nutrients are essential and which guidelines are misleading, or simply wrong.

Six months into my new lifestyle I realized that nutrition was what I wanted to focus on for the rest of my life. I changed my course of study to focus on health communication and nutrition. I plan on continuing my health/nutrition studies on the graduate level.

I started this blog over a year ago, the second I went vegan. I knew I’d need the support, and it was a great resource for finding recipes and getting my questions answered. I never dreamed that soon I would be the one giving out recipes and answering the questions. Nothing makes me happier than teaching people about food and my lifestyle, and it means the world to me that you’d take the time to read my blog.

Love and veggies,
Madde
